Cultural Events

Feb 11 – 13 ~ FUMC will be a location for the Boulder International Film Festival .

Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6 at 7:30 pm ~ Boulder Bach Festival. Friday’s concert includes instrumental works and the choir performing Cantata 140, Wachet auf, Ruft uns die Stimme. Saturday, the choir will present two Bach motets, Jesu, Meine Freude and Der Geist Hilft.

April 10 and 17 ~ Resonance Women's Chorus will present Strange Thing at 7:00 p.m. on
Saturday, April 10 and Saturday, April 17, at the First United Methodist
Church, 1421 Spruce St., Boulder. A special children's concert version
of the concert will be performed on Saturday, April
17 at 3:00 p.m.

Strange Thing is an exuberant spring concert full of big sound, humor,
and joyful energy. Musical selections include the premiere of Gary
Grundei's Strange Thing, a setting of Issa's haiku: "To be alive:/what a
strange thing!/In cherry blossom shade." Also on the program are Joan
Szymko's setting of text by Audre Lorde ("When I dare..."), She Who
Makes Her Meaning Clear; Hilliard and Boresi's Madrigals for the
Information Age; Karl Jenkins' Adiemus; and works by Rosephanye Powell,
Gwyneth Walker, Carole King, Malcolm Dalglish, Beethoven's Wig, and the
Isely Brothers.

The children's concert version of the program is a one-hour performance
including selections from the evening program, spiced with additional
material to create an interactive and "kid-friendly"
version of the concert. Children of all ages are welcome.

Tickets for the evening performances are $15 for general admission and
$10 for seniors and children (65 and over, 16 and under). They can be
purchased through Brown Paper Tickets at brownpapertickets.com/
event/100801 or 1-800-838-3006; at Boulder Body Wear, 2660 Canyon Blvd.
in Boulder; or at the door.
The children's concert is free for children 12 and under (no ticket
needed). $10 tickets for ages 13 and up are available at the door, or

April 8 and 10: The Cantata Project
Here's an opportunity to sing a Bach Canata in a workshop sponsored by
The Renaissance Project. Art Bragg will lead chorus, orchestra, and
soloists through a workshop on "Gottes Zeit" (BWV 106). Chorus member
donation $10. Donation $5 for audience members. If you can, please
register in advance by sending your name, voice part, and email address
to director@RenaissanceProjectBoulder.org.
